On April 4th 2016, the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s murder, the Black Graduate Student Alliance (BGSA) & Student Advocates for Instilling Change (SAIC) hosted a Die-In. This Die-In was done to bring awareness to the physical and psychological implications of racism across the United States.

The Die-In lasted for 16 minutes, with every minute representing a bullet that Laquan McDonald took from a Chicago PD officer. The idea stemmed from graduate psychology students in Chicago, and through media and networking, it reached DU’s BGSA and SAIC. Being at the Anderson Academic Commons, not only did the Chancellor see this demonstration, but the building’s centrality on campus ensured that passing students saw it as well.
