Black Out

Students, faculty, and staff dressed in all black and stood in silence on Driscoll bridge to show solidarity with Black DU community members. Photographer unknown.

The Blackout for Black Lives followed closely on the heels of the protest at the Freedom of Speech Wall, and “occurred in response to the racialized violence and silencing occurring at the University of Denver (DU).” Individuals were asked to wear black as part of the silent protest. It successfully brought issues at DU to light and challenged DU as an institution to take action on these issues.

The blackout and demonstration gained the participation of not only DU community members & administration, but individuals across the entire United States of America. The silent protest took place on the Driscoll Bridge, with a 10-minute moment of silence to honor victims of police brutality.
