Dr. Allan Hurst (1909-1987), a tuberculosis specialist from New York, was hired by National Jewish Hospital as Medical Director, where he served from 1945 through 1952. At National Jewish he wrote numerous articles and helped develop advanced surgical techniques for the treatment of tuberculosis. He also served as a successful Medical Director at the Ex-Patients’ Home and the National Jewish Home for Asthmatic Children in Denver. He was on the staff of a number of hospitals and was Associate Clinical Director of Medicine at the University of Colorado from 1945 until he retired in 1981.
