Description
Interior of Royal Liquors in Pueblo, Colorado. The store was located at 117 E. 4th Street and was the first liquor store in Pueblo after prohibition was abolished. The store was owned by Albert Stein.
Handwritten on envelope: ''# 386 Stein family of Pueblo, 1900-1960 info inside.'' Photocopy of handwritten note inside original envelope: ''Taken in Pueblo, Colorado between 1913 and 1914. Max Stein arrived in Pueblo in 1898 (he is the man on the right) after serving as a mounted policeman, he began peddling fruit and vegetables from a wagon. About 1910 he opened a retail grocery store at 1156 4th St., Pueblo. The business is still in the same location but has expanded to become a wholesale food company. Marvin Stein, the present owner, is a third-generation Stein.'' On back of photograph: ''Albert Stein's Royal Liquors 117 E. 4th St. (first liquor store in Pueblo after prohibition was abolished) c 1932 Donor Mrs. Ruth Stein #386.''
