Woodstock West: Day 2

8:00 AM

The second day of Woodstock West began somewhat inauspiciously, with a small protest in front of the General Classroom Building (since renovated and renamed Sturm Hall). Students who were picketing initially heckled and yelled at students who were entering to attend class, but were convinced by protest organizers to stop, given the chancellor's guidance that anyone who was interfering with campus activities could be suspended or expelled.

By noon, the protest had grown to several hundred.

Black Panthers were speaking in front of Ben Cherrington Hall (now part of the Sie International Relations Complex). The DU Clarion seems to indicate that at least a few of the Panthers speaking were also Graduate School of International Studies (Korbel) students, and the full rally had begun by 2 PM, also with Panthers as speakers.

Post Rally

After the rally, the crowd partially dispersed to the Chancellor’s residence even though the chancellor wasn’t there (and most organizers knew he wasn't and attempted to divert the crowd). Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Blackburn addressed the crowd, and they eventually dispersed, with 15-20 people sleeping on the Carnegie Green lawn.
