Hanya Holm: When Modern Dance Came to Colorado
Carolyn Durand Brooks, a former Hanya Holm Dance Company member, met her husband, Marshall Brooks, when he was working as a set designer for Holm’s company in New York City in the late 1930s. Durand Brooks left the company soon after marrying, but she and Holm kept in close contact.
Holm visited the Brooks often during the summers that Holm directed the summer dance program at Colorado College, as the Brooks moved to Colorado after World War II. Durand Brooks noted that “Marshall and I kept in close touch with Hanya and the three of us became great friends, actually more like family."
